Student Affairs
Eat 'em Up Kats!

Welcome to the heart of the Bearkat community—the Division of Student Affairs.
This is where spirit, tradition, leadership, and service come together to create a vibrant campus life at Sam Houston State University. Our mission is to support students beyond the classroom by fostering holistic development and creating meaningful experiences that empower Bearkats to thrive academically, personally, and socially.

Your support on Giving Day directly strengthens the programs that shape student engagement, leadership, and success.

Bearkat Camp (watch video)

Bearkat Camp provides an immersive experience that builds school spirit, strengthens pride in SHSU traditions, and fosters lifelong connections among students. Your gift helps expand the reach of this impactful program, allowing more students to participate and begin their Bearkat journey feeling connected and supported. It costs $125 to send one freshman through camp; we ask for your kindness to sponsor one or more students to attend.

First-Generation Center (watch video)

The First-Generation Center supports students and families navigating the college experience for the first time. Your generosity helps provide resources, programming, and guidance that empower first-generation Bearkats to succeed and feel confident throughout their academic journey.

Fraternity & Sorority Life (watch video)

Fraternity and Sorority Life encourages academic excellence, fosters lifelong connections, supports member development, and promotes leadership and service. Contributions support infrastructure, education, and initiatives that enhance the experience and success of students engaged in Fraternity & Sorority Life at SHSU.

SHSU Spirit Programs (watch video)

Home to multiple national titles, SHSU Spirit Programs proudly represent Bearkat pride on campus and beyond. Financial support assists with student scholarships as well as new and upgraded uniforms and costumes, ensuring these programs continue to shine at the highest level.

Student Government Association (SGA) (watch video)

The Student Government Association serves as the voice of the student body, advocating student needs and participating in shared governance. Celebrating its 140th anniversary as the oldest student organization at SHSU, SGA continues a legacy of leadership and service. Your gift helps establish an endowed scholarship supporting future student leaders. In honor of this monumental historical milestone, we are asking for a $140 donation to help establish these scholarships.
