The Newton Gresham Library is integral to the University's learning and research mission and endeavors to create physical and virtual environments that promote discovery of new knowledge and the transfer of existing knowledge. The Library fulfills this mission by providing organized access to a diverse array of quality print, electronic, and other resources and by continuously improving the effectiveness of its instructional and research services.
Your gift to the Newton Gresham Library Enrichment account provides the greatest flexibility and most immediate impact for making investments in the future of the library. Resources support materials, equipment, furniture, and other physical improvements to the Newton Gresham Library collections and space.
The Thomason Room of the Newton Gresham Library is home to many of SHSU’s rare and unique books and manuscript collections. Built in 1968 as a Texas history collection, the Thomason Room now holds many additional special items on the American Civil War, criminal justice, fine literature, and Huntsville and Walker County history. The special collections of the Thomason Room are available for students and independent researchers, and the room is open weekly for the community and visiting SHSU classes.
The Thomason Room Enrichment account provides additional funding for the preservation of the rare and unique collections of the Thomason Room special collections. Your gift helps to support the storage and professional care of SHSU’s most fragile, exclusive, and precious research collections to preserve them for future generations.
